interview // red rose

What's the science behind your name?

My name, Rose, is short for Red Rose of Sharon. A rose is symbolic of Christ in three ways. Jesus is THE Rose of Sharon and a rose is soft and sweet. That's where the rose came from. Red Rose was chosen to symbolize the blood of Christ. A white rose means death and I don't want to represent Christ being dead because He is alive and what better to represent His life than the blood that carries me from day to day. It never loses power. Now the third symbolism is the thorns of a rose. They are there to prick us when we’re doing wrong. To remind us of our purpose.

How long have you been into Hip-Hop?

I've been listening to hip-hop since I was about ten but I just got into HOLY Hip-Hop three years ago.

Did your brother (LTS) have any effect?

And you know this! LTS is not only my brother; he's my best friend. I've been a poet all of my life and he always told me I should try rhyming but I'd just shrug it off. One day when he was in the studio recording he couldn't decide on which verse of his he wanted to do. I was begging him to do my favorite one of his and he wanted to do another. So Judah Priest made me do the one I wanted L to do and L did the one he wanted to do. That's how Rose came to be. It's been times when I thought, "What am I doing? I have no skills and I'm not reaching anyone." But it was always those times when LTS came to me and said "Rose, you killed them with that one!" or "Rose, you did good baby girl." I love my brother to death and I thank him, Priest, and most of all GOD, for where I am today.

What was your first single/recording?

My first recording was "True Army" with Priest and LTS.

What was/is your favorite single/recording you did?

True Army is the only recording I've done but my favorite verse is going to be on one of our upcoming rhymes.

What instruments do you use?

The only instruments I use are the Bible, my faith, my voice, and my experience.

How would you classify your style as an artist?

I really don't think I have a set style. It switches. As long as I'm bringing God's word and actually reaching people then I'm happy.

What artist(s) have you not worked with, but would like to?

I want to work with Omega. I've done shows with him but I want to be on one of his songs. You hear that Omega? I'm waiting. But seriously I can get down with anyone who rhymes for God.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Well, in five years I'll be in school still at Florida Memorial College. But I plan on continuing in my ministry and I'll still be with 39 Lashez. In fact I plan on having an album out by then.

What do you feel is the toughest part of the music industry?

Right now the toughest part is making it to shows. That's only because this is my last year in school and there are a lot of things I have to do. I plan on making all the shows this summer because in August I'll be starting school again.

What would the ultimate reward for you be?

My ultimate reward will be making it into the Kingdom and hearing Christ say

"Job well done my good and faithful servant." Also getting to see my mom again.

What message are you trying to get across to fans?

My main message is God's love for us. I'm working on it now. Everything I write should be about God's love for us and how we should love Him. That's a very important factor in your relationship with God and anyone who knows me knows how important God is to me.

What is your favorite Bible verse(s) and why?

My favorite Bible verse is Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Four years ago I was on my death bed and the doctors told my family that IF I did live I wouldn't be healthy but here I am today rhymin' for God, dancin' for God, and standing strong for God and it's all because of the strength he gave me, and His grace and mercy.

Do your friends and look at you differently now?

My friends most definitely look at me differently. I've always been the shy type but now I go out and say what I have to about God. That's made me gain and lose friends. But mostly I've gained friends because they want that constant joy that they see in me and like I've said before it's because of God's love.

If someone were to look in your CD player or tape player right now what would be in it?

That's funny because right now I'm listening to Mary Mary but more than likely they would find any HOLY Hip-Hop album. That's what I listen to the most now. I still listen to old spirituals too.

Personally what does hiphop mean to you?

Hip-Hop is poetry to a beat. It's putting your thoughts to a rhyme whether they be holy or secular. Now, HOLY Hip-Hop is coming straight for GOD. No Doubt.

Who do you feel is your biggest influence and why?

My biggest influence isn't a who it's a what. It was my mother's death. That slapped me in the face and it hurt but it also woke me up. Life is too short to be playing church. It's time to get serious because before you know it the trumpet will be sounding and you'll be left here crying, " You forgot me Lord!" I had to get my act together and be real for Christ.

How do you feel your music will effect its listeners?

I'm praying that my music won't be so hard that it frightens people away. That's not what I'm trying to do. I want my music to come soft and sweet but real. And if I do have to get loud I want it to bring people to God.

If you could change one thing in world, what would it be?

If I could change one thing I probably make it that I started my ministry earlier.

If you could have one superhuman power, what would it be?

Hmmmmm. I don't know. I guess it would be to fly so that whenever someone needed help I could be right there just like superman.

What should we expect from you in the future?

Sorry men but I plan on starting something for the women. In a way it'll benefit the men too. I want to show women how to let God heal their pains and be that Virtuous woman that He wants them to be so that they can find the right man to be with and not fall for just any joe. A lot of women have been hurt by past mates (boyfriends/husbands) and take it out on their present mates. Don't get me wrong; I'm not trading on my sisters because I fall into that category myself. But I'm letting God heal me now and when I'm complete I plan on sharing my healing.

What would you like to say to all the new artists in the game?

Remember who brought you to where you are today. He's the same one who can knock you back don't so always put God first. You weren't born with your skillz He chose you to work for Him.

How can your fans contact you?

My contacts are RedRose1nOnly@aol.com, otv@otventertainment.com, or judahpriest@angelfire.com

Any last words?

To anyone that hears me remember God is either Lord OF ALL or He's not Lord AT ALL. Is He Lord of your life? Think about it. One love. Peace & Grace from Rose.
