interview // nomadic the journeyman

What is the logic behind your name?

My name is pretty basic...we walk and roam this earth for a season...yet it's not my permanent home… that comes upon my death...or the return of Christ.

How long have you been into Hip-Hop?

Since the days of Beat Street.... not sure on the year...I started in breakin'...did that til like 87, we use to do our thing in front of toys r us. If your from, or ever been to fresno, the old toys r us...on blackstone and bullard...if you ever saw four clowns trying to hold it down for the b-boys...that was probably us.

What motivated you to get into this industry?

It's kind of funny I always talk to our producer DK about this type of thing....the industry never has been a factor, don't get me wrong I'm in it so I can't just ignore it, but it's the driving force behind what it is we do, or who it is we are as the comps unit.

What was your first single/recording?

My lips are sealed on that one, I do remember though...wow…the wackness permeates throughout the whole thing.

What instruments do you use?

Mpc 3000, roland w30, esi-32, sp 1200 and mic's that get torched..uuuuuggggghhh!!!

What artist(s) have you not worked with, but would like to?

I think I can speak for the both of us on this one, 4th avenue jones is very talented, and in my opinion highly over looked group.

What do you feel is the toughest part of the music industry?

The level of sin that runs through both secular and Christian sides and the lack of integrity

What would the ultimate reward for you be?

To be held in Christ’s arms, no doubt.

What message are you trying to get across to fans?

That Christ is lord and through him, and him alone comes life, also, that this hip-hop thing is being taken way too seriously at it's purest it's just music...

If someone were to look in your CD player or tape player right now what would be in it?

This processions maxi-single, look for them to smash in a minute. The tape player...ummm...a mix tape with dudes like...vexdavortex, 4th ave, l.a symph', some of our junk, play dough, future shock (sojourn) and some cross movement stuff as well.

Personally what does hiphop mean to you?

A means for the message it doesn't take on this, oh don't talk about the sacred form of expression hip-hop, type of vibe, if I wasn't doing this the lord would have me holding it down with something he chose hip-hop it's music to answer your question.

Who do you feel is your biggest influence and why?

Life, because when it's good to you it's something you can draw from and when it's kicking you in the face it's a beautiful thing to draw from other things. I draw from the word of God, people I’ve lost, people I’ve loved, a very select few emcee's.

How do you feel your music will effect its listeners?

If they choose to listen to what it is we are truly saying the impact has no limits, it's funny, because we, to the naked ear sound like we are so pro hip-hop, when in reality, we are and have been, pro Christ from the jump…period.

If you could have one superhuman power, what would it be?

The ability to shoot bacon bits through my torso region also, the ability to ooze thousand island from my pours and the ability to annihilate all dudes that wear butthugger jeans. (Caleb is with Nomadic on that one.)

What should we expect from you in the future?

Expect the album to drop in the spring "banner of the blood stained" look for the comps on other artists junk to we're working on some things. oh, the album will be available on tapes, cd's and vinyl.

What would you like to say to all the new artists in the game?

Keep your focus on the message of Christ, and then when you touch on other issues you'll make a lot more sense. Be quick to LISTEN, and slow to SPEAK. Don’t come out if your wack, you know if you got skills or not, your boy's will pump you up regardless it's up to you to truly know though the reason if your dropping wack junk it further enhances the belief that we (Christians) are wack and corny and took a minute, but the components are neither wack, nor corny.

How can your fans contact you?

nomadic22@mediaone.net for all group stuff...

Any last words?

Be sincere to god.... trust in and rely on his perfect wisdom...be attentive to the needs of others.....love those that love you...love those that hate you....I’ve messed up a lot of beautiful things in my life due to my haste, and prideful ways which is more reason to lean on him.
